Her pre-admission legal experience is well-rounded. As a Student Attorney (Misdemeanor and Felony Divisions) at the Washtenaw Public Defenders Office, she managed daily caseloads of 30-50 files, conducted client intake, negotiated plea agreements, and appeared in court for bond, probation violation, and sentencing hearings. She also served as a Juvenile Lifer Research Assistant at the State Appellate Defender Office, managing a caseload of nearly 300 records and conducting confidential document review and client interviews. Furthermore, as a Legal Document Reviewer for Strategic Legal Solutions, she examined over 1,800 documents daily, coding them for privileged information.

Mayrel earned her Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in January 2019. During law school, she excelled, making the Dean’s List multiple times. Her commitment to advocacy was evident in her leadership roles as President of the Criminal Law Society (2017-2019) and Senator for the Student Bar Association (2016-2019). She also achieved national recognition as a National Team Finalist in the ABA Negotiations Competition.
